About Us

We believe Math is a tool and legacy rooted in Black ingenuity...

Our Founder

As an ambitious high school senior, I made the bold decision to pursue a major in mathematics, inspired by my youthful and dynamic teachers who shared my likeness. Their presence redefined the image of a mathematician for me. Upon entering college, however, I encountered a stark reality. Despite initially approaching my mathematical journey with confidence, as I progressed through my courses, the familiar faces faded away. The absence of women and people of color left me feeling isolated, questioning my place and choice to study mathematics. Doubt crept in, and I grappled with the thought, "Who am I to take on this challenge?" Consequently, I redirected my path and embraced the aspiration of becoming an elementary school teacher.

This transformative experience altered the course of my career. Reflecting back, I wished for an encouraging voice to remind me, "You've got this, girl!" or affirm, "You're brilliant, don't doubt it!" Such encouragement might have steered me towards the envisioned path. It made me wonder how many young girls share similar narratives. How many Black women harbor this unspoken struggle?

My aspiration is to provide a guiding light for Black girls and women, providing reassurance when they doubt their place in the world. I want us to know it is our right to take up space, to delve into the beauty of mathematics, and to always OWN our BRILLIANCE!
